National Medical Commission mandates a Foundation Course for all newly admitted MBBS students under the Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) curriculum. In accordance with these guidelines, the Foundation Course is conducted at Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College at the beginning of the MBBS Phase-I academic session.
About the Foundation Course
The Foundation Course is a structured induction programme designed to facilitate the smooth transition of students from school education to the professional medical curriculum. It aims to orient students to the medical profession, institutional environment, ethical responsibilities, and expectations of the MBBS programme.
The course is compulsory for all first-year MBBS students, and attendance is maintained as per NMC norms.
Objectives of the Foundation Course
The programme is designed to:
Introduce students to the role of a doctor in society and the structure of the Indian healthcare system
Familiarize them with the MBBS curriculum, assessment methods, and academic expectations
Develop understanding of medical ethics, professionalism, and patient safety
