Workshop on Balanced Nutrition in Children
A significant and informative workshop on Childhood Nutrition was jointly organized by the Jhansi Branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and the Department of Pediatrics, Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi.
The workshop aimed to update pediatricians and postgraduate residents on the evolving nutritional requirements of children from infancy to adolescence, the latest scientific evidence, and practical approaches to nutritional management.
The programme was graced by Prof. Dr. Sudhir Kumar, Principal, Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, Jhansi, as the Chief Guest. He emphasized that adequate and balanced nutrition during childhood is the foundation of a healthy society and highlighted the importance of such academic initiatives in strengthening medical education and promoting continuous professional development.
During the workshop, Prof. Dr. G. S. Chaudhary, National Executive Board Member of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics and Head of the Department of Pediatrics, MLB Medical College, Jhansi, discussed the importance of early initiation of breastfeeding and exclusive breastfeeding. He highlighted that breastfeeding within the first hour after birth and exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months can significantly contribute to improved infant health and survival. He further emphasized that optimal early nutrition plays a crucial role in the physical, mental, and immune development of infants.
Dr. Sanjay Niranjan, Senior Pediatrician from Lucknow, shared practical insights into complementary feeding, nutrition during the first 1,000 days, and various aspects of nutritional management in special situations.
Dr. R. N. Sharma, Senior Pediatrician from Agra, delivered an in-depth session on nutrition in children aged 3–10 years. He highlighted the risk of micronutrient deficiencies and other nutritional concerns among school-age children and emphasized the importance of a balanced diet, regular monitoring, and appropriate nutritional counselling.
Dr. Om Shankar Chaurasia, Senior Pediatrician from Jhansi, delivered a comprehensive and practical lecture on adolescent nutrition, rapid physical growth, and the developmental challenges associated with adolescence.
The workshop focused on enhancing the knowledge and clinical capabilities of healthcare professionals regarding the age-specific and evolving nutritional needs of children. It also emphasized the importance of continuous learning and evidence-based practices in improving the quality of pediatric healthcare services.
The successful organization of the programme was supported by the valuable contributions of Dr. Sapna Gupta, President; Dr. Deepak Singh, Secretary; and Dr. Taranpreet Bhusari, Treasurer, Jhansi Academy of Pediatrics.
The programme witnessed the gracious presence of several senior physicians and pediatricians from Jhansi, including Dr. Anil Kaushik, Dr. R. S. Sethi, Dr. Dinesh Yadav, Dr. Rajesh Pachauria, Dr. Ashok Saxena, Dr. Rajkumar Agrawal, Dr. Satish Jai, Dr. Anjana, Dr. Rehana, Dr. Nupur Pandey, Dr. Prashant Dixit, Dr. Pramod Gupta, Dr. Abhishek Jain, Dr. Ashok Tiwari, Dr. Mamta Naja, and Dr. Sohit Gupta, along with several other senior physicians, pediatricians, and senior and junior residents from the Department of Pediatrics, MLB Medical College.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Deepak Singh, Secretary, Jhansi Academy of Pediatrics.
